This album collects works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Jascha Heifetz/ Manuel Ponce, Leo Brouwer, Thomas Oboe Lee, Francisco Tárrega, and Yu-Hsien Teng/ Ahim Tan. Except Preludios by Thomas Oboe Lee, Wei-Chen transcribed all the other works for marimba solo or duo. Playing transcribed works on marimba gives both he original music and the instrument a multiple dimension of sounds. ESTRELLITA, a Mexican serenade, means My Little Stars in Spanish. The album mainly features Brazilian, Cuban, Spanish, and Mexican music. Wei-Chen also recorded a folk tune of Taiwan, where he is originally from. This recording will give you a different perspective of marimba sound.
